Doc Johnson on "a guy and his identity."
Since coming to New Life and Malone, Doc has habitually stressed the need for a Biblical approach to manhood. Both in the classroom and in the church, men, particularly young men, are looking for direction about how to be a Godly man. In short, what does a Godly man look like?
In January of 2009 the Lord began to challenge Doc about regular, man specific interaction about how to pursue Biblical manhood.
Thus far, the format for Guy Time is fairly straightforward.
- We attempt to find a time convenient for the greatest number of guys, usually 2 hours on a weeknight (each guy brings a brown bag) or on a Saturday morning (with coffee and doughnuts provided).
- The first hour is given to a particular topic related to Biblical manhood.
- The second part is Q and A, with 2 rules- 1, anybody can ask anything they want to related to the topic under discussion, and 2, in an effort to foster transparency and confidentiality, what is discussed among the guys stays in the room.
- Guy Time is open to those outside New Life, whether from another church, or unchurched.
- Guy Time usually occurs about every 6-8 weeks.
Topics to be discussed include the following-
- a guy and his identity
- a guy and his father
- a guy and his sexuality
- a guy and his job
- a guy and his woman
- a guy and his friendships
- a guy and his anger
- a guy and same sex attraction
- a guy and his money
- a guy and his...
